CT Calcium Scoring
Calcium is easily detected on X-rays. The presence of calcium in the coronary arteries (blood vessels which supply blood to the heart muscle) indicates definite plaque buildup. The calcium score (total amount of calcium) is used to estimate your risk of future coronary artery disease and heart attack. The test is quick and non-invasive.
CT Coronary Angiography
This specialised CT scan involves an intravenous injection of contrast (dye) to study the blood flow in your coronary arteries. This test is the most accurate non-invasive test for assessment of the anatomy of the coronary arteries. It is often done under 30 mins.
It can detect:
- Narrowing or blockages in coronary arteries
- Plaque buildup
- Congenital coronary artery abnormalities
- Bypass graft or stent re-narrowing
It is commonly used for the evaluation of chest pain in Intermediate-risk individuals.
